If you have lived in Northern California in the last five years, then you know how stressful it can be to deal with the wildfires. The rolling blackouts, the evacuation warnings, the constant messages from Nixle, and of course fearing for the safety of yourself and your home. It’s certainly not fun, but it is our new reality. We unfortunately know this truth first hand, one of our team members lost their home in the 2017 Tubbs Fire. Worst of all, this issue only seems to be getting worse. Despite all the efforts of Cal Fire, and the State of California increasing their efforts to prevent such disasters, they are no match for mother nature. Right now California is in a severe drought, and facing record temperatures. Stopping the wildfires in these conditions is impossible, BUT all hope is not lost. We can do our part to prevent a massive spread. We can make the most of what we have, and focus on the things we can control.
What Can You Control In These Conditions?
First and foremost you can control you effort and due diligence in preventing how far wildfires spread and keeping your home protected. Yes, that sounds vague, so let’s break it down.
- You can keep your plants watered at the allowable limit. Yes, we are in a drought, hence ‘allowable limit’, but green plants are much harder to burn than dry, dead ones. If you need help clearing dry, flammable materials for your property you can contact us for our landscaping services.
- You can be diligent and recognize any trees that may be close to powerlines, and call PG&E to see if they can help. Just kidding, they’re useless, but you can contact a reputable tree service to prune and trim these trees to add peace of mind and protection to your property.
- Check your yard and surroundings for any dry plants or dead trees. Removing these dead trees and pants from your yard is a positive step towards protecting your property.
- Create fire breaks on and around your property. Depending on your property size this could be a small or big job. If you have a multi-acre property, or lack the man power to do it yourself, feel free to contact the professionals. Here at Abraham’s Professional Tree Service we can handle wildfire mitigation, creating fuel breaks, and fire damage remediation.
We are all in this together. Let’s do our part to protect Sonoma County. Feel free to reach out to our team for more information.
