Tree Service and Landscaping: Your Top FAQ’s Answered

Getting ready for a big project out in the yard? We bet you have some questions. Here at Abraham’s Professional Tree Service we are experts in all things arborist and landscaping related.

You may be wondering:

Why is pruning and trimming important?

Trees need to be pruned and trimmed for a number of reasons including: safety, aesthetics and tree health. Broken or dead branches can be dangerous if they fall – oftentimes without warning, even on a calm day! If a tree’s branches grow too big for the tree or are too close to your home or powerlines, they need to be pruned and cleared to prevent them from damaging your home or causing a fire. From an aesthetic perspective, pruning can help make a tree look better or provide you with a better view of your property or horizon. If you are thinking about pruning and trimming a tree, be sure to use a Certified Arborist. Unskilled and uneducated workers can damage your trees and property.

What if a tree needs to be removed, will my property be protected?

At Abraham’s Professional Tree Service we take every precaution necessary to protect your property and minimize any impact to the landscape. For example, our crews lay down protective material over sensitive areas when necessary. Further, our foremen and crews are extremely experienced in all types of removals and pruning including hand work, aerial lift and crane work. Our clients constantly compliment us by mentioning that it is almost impossible to tell we were on their property other than to perform tree work!

What is the best season for tree service?

We work year-round. In summer (the growing season of a tree), it is easiest to evaluate the health of the tree and do minor trimming or thinning. However, during the months of November through March (a tree’s dormant stage), it is the best time for the health of the tree to do the heavier pruning. Keep in mind that with no leaves on the tree, we have better visibility when working along roads. Our job is also made easier during this time, not only because there are no leaves, but also due to things like your flowers or lawn not needing to be avoided in order to be preserved.

What is the difference between tree trimming and tree pruning?

Primarily, tree trimming is for shrubs and hedges while tree pruning is for trees and shrubs. Trimming is to ensure that the shrub or hedge will grow perfectly, but pruning is for protecting the tree or shrub. Pruning services tend to get rid of dead, loose, or infected branches so the shrub can flourish, or gives the shrub a different shape for aesthetic purposes. Tree trimming services is done to remove overgrown bushes so that shrubs can get more moisture and light.

WHAT IS YOUR PROCESS FOR MAKING MY YARD FUNCTIONAL AS WELL AS BEAUTIFUL?

First, we schedule a time to meet to discuss your project. During our consultation, we will go over what it is that you want and don’t want from your landscape. If a design is needed, we will come back to discuss design options and have plans made. Typically, within two weeks of our initial meeting, we will present you with a proposal and design concept for you to review.

How do plants and trees help?

Plants and trees absorb ozone-damaging pollutants, produce oxygen and help keep temperatures down. Efficient landscaping can reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 20%.

When Is the Best Time To Reinvent Landscaping?

Many may assume springtime is the ideal season for landscaping installations, but for plantings like trees, shrubs and grass, fall is the best time for projects because of the warm days and cool evenings and the increased precipitation that assists new plant establishment. With fall plantings, you’ll have six to eight months to get roots established before warmer months, weeds are less frequent and the soil temperature is still warm. However, for perennial and annual flowers, springtime is the best time for planting.
